Growing Family

Tampa Family Photographer

The H. Family is growing! In July they will welcome a baby boy into their hectic life with a 1 year old. Miss Emily was quite the little model for me. She cooperated so well for being this age giving me eye contact and so many adorable smiles! I had such a great time photographing this family at Philippe Park in Safety Harbor and cannot wait to meet their new addition in a few months!

If you have been following my blog for the last few months, you know that I’m a part of a monthly blog circle project with a group of crazy talented photographers where we try to document things in a different way than we normally would. At the end of my blog post, you can view the next photographer’s post and so on and so on until you’ve come full circle!

We probably head out to the beach 2-3 times a month, especially during the spring and summer and my boys just have a blast playing in the sand. And this time around, we all had fun building a sand castle so that my 5 year old could … what else?…Destroy it… Of course right?

Beach Family Fun

Tampa Family Photographer

The T. Family wanted some updated family photos so we decided to meet up at the beach near their home and capture them in their own element. The weather wasn’t ideal since it was gloomy and gray all day and about to rain any minute but went for it anyway and it turned out so soft and pretty! I photographed their family about a year ago and so glad to see how much the kids have grown! Don’t you just want to pinch those chubby cheeks from these two?

Life by Lens is a monthly blog circle project I am participating in with a wonderfully talented group of photographers where our goal each month is to document normal everyday things we otherwise wouldn’t.   At the end of my blog post, you can view the next photographer’s post and so on and so on until you’ve come full circle! This month’s theme will be color; I did a little interesting take on it!

Our home has been taken over. By none other than Angry Birds. Angry Birds Space, Angry Birds Star Wars, Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio, and even the spin off Bad Piggies. Who knew it would be such a hit for my 5 year old? When we moved a few months ago, I was purging a lot of toys and the old containers of Play Doh did not make the cut. So a few days ago, my Angry Birds fanatic was looking for Play Doh because out of the blue, he wanted to make Angry Birds out of them. It was a few days before we made it to the store to buy some and he immediately spent the afternoon carefully constructing each different bird, down to all the little details. So I introduce you to my little Play Doh artist! I promise he did all on his own and I didn’t help him one bit!

The many COLORS of Angry Birds! We have Red Bird, Yellow Bird, Black/Bomb Bird, White Bird, Boomerang Bird, Ice Bird, Luke Skywalker Bird, Chewbacca Bird, and even a few piggies!

You know I wanted to just take a bite out of it! He brought along is super adorable sisters too for some photos. Love all three of them!!

Emma’s First Birthday!

Tampa Baby Photographer

Emma came to me a few weeks after her first birthday for a cake smash session and she acted like she had never seen me before! Umm hello, don’t you remember those adorable photos I took of you a few months ago? Shesh! It was ok though because we took a few extra minutes to re-acquaint ourselves, we sang songs (her favorite being Mr. Two Bits song, a true Florida Gator!), played with my props, let her eat some snacks. Took a few minutes before she would even sit down and smile for the camera but once she did, all her cute expressions came out and we had a wonderful session.

We had so much fun outside too and she even had a big surprise for everyone! I can’t wait to meet baby brother or sister the end of this year!

One year old sessions are becoming one of my favorites sessions! Thank you the B. Family for choosing me to capture Emma’s first year!

Ethan’s First Year!

Tampa Newborn and Baby Photographer

How is it that Ethan is one year old already? I remember driving to his house when he was just 7 days old and capturing his newborn photos like it was yesterday. He was probably one of my best sleepers as a newborn and let me do whatever I wanted to him without making as much as a peep. See how sweet and still he was?

Tampa_Newborn_Photographer_Boy

One of my favorite ages to shoot (besides newborns of course!) is when they can sit up. Ethan came to me a little after that and he was on the verge of crawling. All I remember is putting him down and he would scoot to another place and rinse and repeat. It was a nice preview to what would happen at his 1 year old shoot!

But don’t you just love this sweet happy face!

I had a feeling he was going to be an early walker and kept asking mom if he was walking yet before our scheduled session. I was so relieved to hear that he hasn’t hit that milestone. What I didn’t realize was how much he’s perfected his crawling skills; he was lightning fast! I had a few tricks up my sleeve to keep him in one spot but I won’t lie, even though I was able to get a bunch of cute photos, he clearly won our little battle.

Life by Lens | April 2013

Life by Lens is a monthly blog circle project I am participating in with a wonderfully talented group of photographers where our goal each month is to document normal everyday things we otherwise wouldn’t.  So I’m taking this opportunity to capture a the little things and push my creativity to the next level. At the end of my blog post, you can view the next photographer’s post and so on and so on until you’ve come full circle!

So I pretty much got started into photography because I wanted to take better photos of my children. It started when my first son was born but really took off after my second son came along. A lot of my photos in the beginning were setting up different “photoshoots” with them posed, well dressed, different props, sometimes with my studio set up or dragging them out to a location I thought would look nice. Well, after a while, they got sick, annoyed, uncooperative, you name it, it wasn’t very easy to get them to smile and look at the camera, there were more tears, running away, and taking photos of the backs of their heads or nothing at all. So it was either give up taking photos of them or try a different approach. Of course giving up photographing them was not going to be the option, I opted to take on the “lifestyle” route and capture them doing things they already did, like playing, taking a bath, sleeping, eating, outings, etc. However, the photographer and perfectionist in me makes sure I “set up” the shot with the right lighting, sometimes rearranging things around the house to declutter the photo, grabbing the right lens for shot because a single change in focal length, aperture, shutter speed can make a different photo. So I was still able to take photos of them and nothing was forced and everyone was happier! And while I love posed, smile at the camera, well-dressed photos, these are the type of photos I cherish in my family photo album.

While our adventures on a weekday afternoon after we come home from work/school are not very exciting, it’s still something I want to remember. Even though it’s crazy hectic, trying to cook dinner, getting them snacks to hold them off until dinner is ready, keeping them out of trouble all at the same time, it’s moments like this that are too easily forgotten.

We always make time to play outside while the weather is bearable and on this bright sun kissed afternoon, the little one brought out the stuffed Woody doll and I just loved how he was carrying it around. And don’t let this little innocent face fool you though, he’s a big trouble maker in the making.

Tampa_Child_Lifestyle_Photographer_07

This is the main reason why I’ve almost given up taking photos of the kids. I get these goofy, obnoxious expressions from this one all the time! I think I was telling him to look at me and smile and instead of doing just that, he gave me this pose.

Tampa_Child_Lifestyle_Photographer_08

But I’ll take some cute scrunched up nose giggles any day! What I give to have such innocence again!

Tampa_Child_Lifestyle_Photographer_05

Potty training this time around has been a little challenging to say the least. At 2.5, my older son was pretty close to being potty trained and I was surprised how easy it was! Well, the little one has zero interest in going in his little cute froggy potty and is happily content doing his business anywhere he feels like. I was just happy he sat on it the other day…

Tampa_Child_Lifestyle_Photographer_04

…unsuccessful but we still practiced good hand hygiene and washed our hands.

Tampa_Child_Lifestyle_Photographer_01

Onto to their favorite activity of the day. And this day was even more special because they got to take a bath in my tub, which by the way I’ve been in a whole zero times. Their bathroom has unfortunately one tiny window and not photography friendly.  This bath also is the first bubble bath they’ve had ever since the older one has severe skin sensitivities and most soaps irritate his skin. I’ve searched all over and finally found a super sensitive fragrance free bubble bath made by California Baby.  It was a happy day!

Welcome to my blog!

Tampa Newborn and Children Photographer

Hi everyone! Welcome to my shiny new blog!!

My name is Nghi and I love babies and photography. I truly get excited and anxious when I know I get to cuddle with a newborn for a few hours, or trying to get those gummy smiles out of a three or six month old, or seeing each babies’ personality develop when they reach that nine and twelve month milestone. I am obsessed with light, capturing those emotions and genuine smiles, and helping you remember their little features that change in a blink of an eye.

I hope through my blog, you can see my love for capturing the little ones in your life and once in a while a few photos from my hectic life with two active boys. So you can get to know me better, here are 10 random facts about me!

  1. I am a huge basketball fanatic, you can always see me cheering on my Orlando Magic team.
  2. I’ve had serious thoughts of auditioning for American Idol. Except I’m neither “American” nor an “idol”.
  3. I love all tropical fruits, jackfruit, rambutan, longan, lychee, mango, guava, dragon fruit, and sugar apple, just to name a few!
  4. I was born with six fingers on my left hand. My grandmother refused to let the doctors remove it when I was born because she said it has a special meaning. She said an extra finger meant that person has a special talent. I think she’s right although I did eventually have it removed.
  5. I was nauseous and vomiting everyday for 9 months in both of my pregnancies. But I wouldn’t have it any other way because I have two healthy, beautiful boys as a result of that!
  6. I bleed orange and blue. Wait, should I admit to that? Did I lose anyone yet? I promise to still photograph and be friends with anyone who doesn’t.
  7. I have a six-foot tall little younger brother that has a black belt. I did say this was a random list!
  8. My favorite show is So You Think You Can Dance. No I have never had the urge to audition for this show, two left feet over here!
  9. My biggest pet peeve is when the toilet paper put in the wrong way. I’ve been known to change the paper around when I visit friends and family’s houses.
  10. My favorite place to be is at the beach or on the water but if you want to find me there, I’ll be the one under the giant umbrella wearing a big sun hat, where it’s nice and shady.

And thank you Rhonda Stark Design for working with me  the last couple of months to design my website and making it fit me and my style of photography! Fresh, airy, and you know, sweet!

Last but not least, no post is complete without a photo! Just my two year old on our daily stroll.
